Sponsor Spotlight: Barnwood4u

Barnwood4u is Jim and Brenda and now our little girl Madison. We started working with barnwood about 12 years ago making bird houses, picture frames and furniture. After selling at craft shows for many years we have focused on online sales and selling at a local shop owned by a friend. Before our little girl was born we decided that I would be a stay at home dad when she was born, so now I am a full time dad and business owner. We love the characteristics of the reclaimed barnwood and emphasize the knots, nail holes and marks on the wood from it's previous use. The sizes and shapes of the knots, nail hole patterns, saw mill marks and different grain patterns of the wood combine to give each piece a unique and beautiful appearance. Our products are an eco friendly way to decorate your home. If you are new to reclaimed wood or have a house full already we invite you to take a look at our Etsy shop. We think you will find something perfect for your home or as a gift for someone special.
Be sure to check out the Barnwood4u shop! They have some really beautiful reclaimed wood pieces, ranging from frames to shelves to furniture!

P.S. The winner of the Mister G And Me giveaway was announced here. The winner of the December Group giveaway was announced here. Hope you have a great New Years weekend! We are off to Tahoe. xo JA

Warm *Special* Apple Cider Recipe

Some of you have asked me about the cider recipe I've been talking about on Twitter. Well, it's pretty delicious and I'm happy to share. The only thing is, there is no real recipe. I just sort of add some extra ingredients to normal cider to make it extra amazing. I got this idea from Jordan's sister a couple years ago and one rainy day last month Jordan and I just got this craving. It guess it was just a warm cider kind of day.
What you'll need:
1 Apple
Dark Rum (optional)
Cut your apple into slices. Add them to a large pot and saute them in butter, sugar and cinnamon. I honestly just added what I thought was a good amount, there are no real measurements here. Continue to saute until the apple slices have softened and the ingredients have started to caramelize. Then pour the entire jug of Cider into the pot. Keep over heat, stirring, for another five minutes or so until the mixture becomes an even consistency. Then, if you'd like to make it a little more special, the drink tastes great with a dark rum. The amount you add is up to you. ;] Enjoy!

My Style: Movie Date

Outfit details: Scarf c/o YBYB, Blazer c/o ShopKempt, Necklace: UO, Rings: Vintage + Etsy

Jordan and I went to see Girl With The Dragon Tattoo this weekend. (I left the theater feeling disturbed yet intrigued at what happens next.) I wanted to wear something cute but casual. I opted for this blazer (I'm loving blazers right now, aren't you?) from ShopKempt. I love the striped detailing on the sleeve cuffs! And I got this darling scarf from my friend Janee, of Yellow Bird Yellow Beard. I'm a big fan of scarfs because they can easily turn a boring outfit more stylish and cute. And this one is the perfect color because it goes with everything! It made the perfect "casual-movie-date-with-my-long-term-boyfriend" outfit!

Christmas in Instagrams

We had a great three-day Christmas weekend. I'm sad it's over! We had the house lit up all festive, Christmas music playing, yummy candles burning...it was so special to me.
Recognize the fabric garland from this DIY Tutorial?
She crawled right under my chin and I just about died it was so sweet.
We went out to dinner with friends on Christmas Eve.
Then the boys got extra creative with some cookie decorating.
Christmas morning we got brunch at a little restaurant in Laguna Beach.
We went there last Christmas as well, so might as well make a tradition out of it!
At night we made a nice Christmas dinner.
Rack of lamb, couscous, and stuffed artichokes.
It was a cozy, homey weekend. Just what was needed!

2012 Goals

2011 has been an amazing year. Jordan and I found our home. I took my first trips to San Francisco and Catalina. I made the front page of Etsy for the first (and second, and third!) time. We got a videography gig in Australia! And of course, this year I started my journey of blogging!

Probably one of the best years of my life because I'm really starting to see my life develop into what I feel it should be. So how to top it? I've been thinking a lot about next year....what I want to be doing and where I want to be doing it.

The obvious goal is to start working on my shop and blog full-time. But that is such a huge goal that I don't want to put a time limit on it. Instead I'd rather focus on little goals that will one day get me to that point (whenever that may be).
You can download this free Goal List here

Besides the continued growth in my shop and blog, my next goal regards my health. I need to have more consistent exercise in my life. My biggest challenge when it comes to exercise is time. With working a full-time job, blogging 5 times a week, and keeping up with shop orders, I often use the excuse "I'm too busy." But I just recently started taking a cardio barre class 2-3 times a week. Point blank, it kicks my ass. I know this is mostly because I haven't had consistent, hard exercise, well, ever. At first it was torture, but I'm slowly finding myself enjoying it more. Maybe even looking forward to the next class (did I really just say that?). I want to keep this new activity going.

My last goal is to stay positive. I am so so thankful for what I have in life. I feel so lucky. Sometimes I focus too much on the negative things, the "petty" things. I let those things get to me way more than I should. And why? There's no reason for it. So next year I really want to focus on not 'sweating the small stuff' and remember just great amazing I have it.

Do you make New Years Resolutions? What are you goals for 2012?

PaintedEpoxy is made up of two people - jewelry by Amber and art by Auroch. We started early in August 2011, nameless at that point. It was originally meant to be a solo adventure with my jewelry but when my boyfriend discussed wanting to make prints of his work, I couldn't resist figuring out how to do it. When it got to the point that I was able to post them - the name that came to me was so simple - yet it fit together perfectly. PaintedEpoxy - As he's the painter and I was using epoxy to hold some of my heavier, bigger pieces together. We're still a "new" store but we've expanded our networking & have made sales both on and offline to people who can't get enough art and unique jewelry pieces in their lives. We have a print shop HERE where everything is currently on sale.. and of course, our ETSY.

So proud to have this group of  talented females on my blog this month! Be sure to stop by their shops and blogs!

BIG NEWS: We're Going To OZ!

I'm so happy I finally get to share this news! We have been working on the final details for weeks now and it's been killing me to keep it a secret. I just didn't want to announce it till it was 100% official. And as of like two seconds ago, the plane tickets have been bought and Jordan and I are going to Australia to shoot another wedding!!

Most of you have probably seen this wedding video we shot of our friend's wedding. Well, so did my Etsy friend, Belle. She wrote me asking if we'd be interested in, or able to, come to Australia to shoot her sister-in-law's wedding. She loved the video we made and thought it would be the perfect gift for the bride and groom.

Jordan and I freaked out at the news, obviously. We've been talking about taking a "big trip" for months now, and the timing of the wedding (March) was perfect. We tried not to get too excited for fear that it wouldn't work out. I mean, it sort of felt like a "too good to be true" opportunity. I'm happy to say that the details have all been worked out and it is really and truly happening! We are making a trip out of it, and will be exploring Australia on a 10 day stay!

We are so flattered and inspired to continue this new journey we have started. It's crazy to think that this would not have happened if I didn't start this blog! Everything is coming together, dreams are coming true. I still don't think I'll fully believe this is happening until I touch down in Sydney, Australia!

Weekend In Instagrams

This weekend we headed to Long Beach for my work's holiday party.
It was at the Long Beach Aquarium! I had never been there so I was really excited.
We saw lots of jellies!
Had some fun bubble time with Penny.
Made fancy grilled cheese with Gruyere and grilled onions. SO good!
Enjoyed some delicious Bloody Mary's. (Do you like them? It took me a while to!)
It was a beautiful weekend! :]

I have a big announcement coming up! I've been keeping this in for a while now and the details are now finalized. I can't wait to share!
